Study shows that smoking is linked to more cancer types than previously thought

The study, led by Dr David Batty and published in Annals of Oncology, examined the relation between cigarette smoking and the main cancers among more than 17 000 London-based male civil servants, and found cigarette smoking to be associated with some cancers with previously unknown links to tobacco use.

Supportive schools can help reduce student smoking

A survey of high-school children in Scotland has shown that pupils who experience positive and inclusive social environments in schools are less likely to take up smoking. New research reveals that teachers who succeed in creating a positive environment in school may be responsible for their pupils staying smoke-free.

Forty per cent of gay men with HIV don't know they are infected

A survey of gay men questioned at gay venues in cities across the UK has found that most of those with undiagnosed HIV infection assumed they were HIV negative. Most of them had previously tested negative and thought they were in the clear. It's feared these men could unknowingly be putting others at risk.
