The Medical Research Council’s Annual Review 2010/11 highlighted some of the work undertaken by the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, focusing on research into the social patterning of deaths following assault in Scotland. This work, led by Prof Alastair Leyland and Ruth Dundas, showed that men under 65 who live in deprived areas in Scotland are 32 times more likely to die from assault than their counterparts from affluent neighbourhoods.
