Unit visit by Ann McKechin, MP for Glasgow North
Monday 14th September 2009

We were  delighted  to  welcome  Ann  McKechin  MP  for  Glasgow  North  and parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Scotland Office  to  the  Unit on 14th September to talk to  a  small  group  of  Unit  staff  about  their research
Professor Sally Macintyre, Hilary Thomson,  Dr  Anne  Ellaway  and  Michaela Benzeval talked with Ann McKechin, enjoying a lively  discussion  on  topics ranging from  the  impact  on  health  of  neighbourhood  regeneration,  the benefit system, the  distribution  by  deprivation  of  alcohol  outlets  in Glasgow and whether people’s perceptions of their own body  size  and  shape matched up with measurements taken by survey nurses.

Ann was very supportive of the Unit’s work and  asked  to  be  kept  updated with relevant information that may help in  shaping  public  policy  in  the future.
