Diet and Health in Later Life

Until recently, investigation into the causes of chronic disease has focused on adult lifestyle factors. There is now growing evidence that exposures at different stages of the life course may affect disease risk. Diet influences susceptibility to a range of chronic diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular disease, probably acting cumulatively throughout life. Adult cohorts where dietary and other data have been measured in childhood present an ideal opportunity to examine the long-term influence of early exposures but there are few such studies in existence. The projects described below followed on from work commenced at the University of Bristol.
