Initiating change locally in bullying and aggression through the school environment (INCLUSIVE)

There is growing concern about the level of aggression and violence in UK schools. The INCLUSIVE pilot was a new multi-component intervention informed by the Gatehouse Project, a whole of school intervention in Australia, a UK based School Ethos Pilot study, and by restorative justice approaches. The INCLUSIVE pilot trial aimed to examine the feasibility and acceptability of the intervention, and to test methods to inform a full-scale trial.

The pilot ran from September 2011 to Jun 2012 and involved 8 schools in England, four randomly allocated to intervention and four to control status. The pilot trial demonstrated feasibility and acceptability of both the intervention and of trial methods in schools. A successful funding application for a full INCLUSIVE trial was made in 2012.
